Public Commission on Legal Aid to consult with British Columbians about legal aid

Check out the YWCA Vancouver's Information for Women Leaving Abuse Web page for valuable resources, including Leaving an Abusive Relationship: Information on Custody and Access for Women with Children, available in Chinese, Farsi, Korean, Punjabi, Spanish, and Vietnamese (funded by the Law Foundation of BC; The Department of Justice Canada is funding translation into French, Japanese, Russian, and Tagalog later this fall.) Another helpful YWCA publication is Mothers Without Status: Practical Information for Service Providers Working with Women Who Have no Legal Status. On July 29, 2010, Order-in-Council 512/2010 amended the Supreme Court Civil and Family Rules to change the time frames for serving notices of application and filing application responses in civil and family cases. See also Recent Amendments to the Civil Rules and Recent Amendments to the Family Rules for information about the reasons behind the changes. (The self-help guides on the Family Law in BC website have all been updated to reflect these revisions to the Family Rules.)
