How to apply for a review of a legal aid refusal
If an intake legal assistant tells you that you're not financially eligible for legal aid or that your case isn't covered by legal aid, you may be able to request a review of this decision. The intake legal assistant who refused your application will provide you with a "Legal Aid Representation Services — Refused" form indicating whether a review is available to you.
Requests for reviews must be in writing, must set out your reasons for disagreeing with the decision, and must include copies of supporting documentation. LSS does not consider any requests received after 30 days from the date of the intake legal assistant’s decision. The decision may take up to three weeks and you will be notified by mail. Mail or fax your request for review to:
Provincial Supervisor, Legal Aid Applications
#425 – 510 Burrard Street
Vancouver, BC V6C 3A8
Fax: 604-682-0787
Even if you are not eligible for legal representation, you may be eligible for legal advice. LSS also provides free legal information services.
